The first blog I browsed over was The Big Picture. No need to leave the house or even turn on the TV with this one. The Big Picture covers topics from all over the world taking on political to social issues. The homepage currently has a story very close to home. It explores the ever so wonderful, if you don't need to drive through there, Sun City.

What I know of Sun City is the elderly, no offense to those who claim that title, and slow drivers. The Big Picture presents this humble city in a whole new light. Short and sweet, the blog gives the basic background and current information about the city. The description is completed with a photoset of activities that frequently happen in the city.
The next blog is a little more tailored to a specific audience and that audience is mostly women. The Hairpin has a variety of posts ranging from television shows to dating advice. Animated by excerpts of conversations that go along with the topic, The Hairpin is both engaging and provocative.

This blog has no shortage of fun and wit and can definitely hold even the shortest attention span for at least a few hours.
The last of the three blogs is the GM Fastlane. Though I personally have a borderline unhealthy obsession with cars, GM's blog comes off as lackluster and a little cut and dry. Thank goodness GM cars do not depend on this blog for sales because their company would definitely struggle. The vocabulary is quite basic which makes the great vehicles being produced not live up to their actual potential. I can say that the blog is very informational. Every detail, feature, and curve of the car at hand is listed in each entry. But that is the problem itself. The lists. Pictures give the blog a fantastic boost though. Providing the imagery the blog content obviously lacks.

Good start here. You have made some interesting evaluations of these blogs but beyond stating that they are provocative or lackluster, what evidence do you have? Is it the tone? The visual presentation? The organization of the information? What elements exactly are working together to make you come to these conclusions?
ReplyDeleteAs of 2/15 there is no Self-generated blog #1.
MMMMmmmm.... C7 :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you wholeheartedly, Gm's blog is a dry mouth on a warm summer's day... not that interesting. The pictures liven it up a bit... but its not Ferarri or Lamborghini where just the pictures could be the blog.
I'm glad to see another petrol head in the class.
What kind of cars does your 'unhealthy obsession' lean towards?
