I don't know if anyone else has noticed recently but the horror genre, along with the other genres, have become more "diverse". Long gone are the good ol' days where selecting a random movie would not leave life changing scars on the movie psyche.
More recently selecting a horror movie has had some repercussions. For example the movie V/H/S. I'm not going to give away too many spoilers but this movie is the definition of MESSED UP. Innocently scrolling through the horror selection one may come across this movie fairly easy due to it's high ratings. Obviously other viewers on Netflix have some problems of their own. Some key points of this movie are flesh eating alien like creatures, spouse murderers, serial killers, a phantom digital killer, and creepy cults and I'm leaving it at that.
Another example of the tomfoolery found in the horror genre would have to be The Girl Next Door. This movie is definitely not for the weak minded or stomached. This is a twisted tale of abuse, extreme abuse. Not only should this be in a completely different category so it won't be stumbled upon by the unsuspecting. This movies explores the darkest capabilities of individuals in a situation where "everyone is doing it". Pack mentality really. When one person says that something okay, is it really? Well in this film yes it does. Children fall victim of an abusive mother and her terrorizing delusions.
I'm choosing not to delve deeper into the mind-altering movies that can be found in the Netflix horror selection but for those who would like to experience some of the messed up story lines themselves I've prepared a selection of movies to look into. You've been warned. (Like seriously though.)
Grave Encounters
The Shrine

The Devil Inside
Great topic for a post; your enthusiasm is apparent. Further explanation/consideration of the this topic (the draw of horror films, the ease of netflix, etc.) would take this post to the next level beyond simply summarizing a few films.
